Help
Welcome to the Help page! This page provides some context and explanation on how the site functions and why certain decisions were made.
List of games
To be listed on the site, a game must meet at least one of the following:
- The Player character is an animal or an anthropomorphic character.
- Significant ally is playable and is an animal or an anthropomorphic character.
- Majority of meaningful side characters are animals or anthropomorphic characters.
Some examples:
- "Sonic the Hedgehog" fits the 1st one because the main character is an anthropomorphic animal himself.
- "Never Alone" fits the 2nd one because the main character is a human, but his ally is an arctic fox and is controllable.
- "Ni no Kuni" fits the 3rd one because the main character is a human, but pretty much every side character is a some kind of animal.
- "Pokemon" main series fits none, but spin-off games may fit some.
Games that don't fit any of the criteria may be listed if they are popular enough and have a significant amount of animal characters. Also, kemonomimi are not considered anthropomorphic animals in most cases.
Genres
"Genre" field is based on the most prominent features during gameplay. We use a following limited genre list:
- Adventure — The primary focus is travel, exploration, dialogue and primarily peaceful solutions to conflicts
- Platform — Gameplay is mostly based on traversal and precise movement around the levels
- Action — Hitting and destroying things to resolve conflicts or to advance story is the main focus of the gameplay
- Shooter — Shooter is an action game where the main tools of destruction are ranged weapons, mechanical or magical
- RPG — Acting "in-character" and making desicions that affect progression of a story is what defines "role-playing"
- Management — Primary focus is on planning and achieving short-term goals, like 2 or 3 future events
- Strategy — Primary focus is on planning far into the future and achieving long-term or global strategic goals
- Racing — Cars, obviously
- Fighting — The game is set on an enclosed stage and focused around one-on-one or group-on-group combat
- Party — Usually consists of a number of mini-games intended for multiplayer competition
- Logic — The game is built around solving puzzles and riddles, or some board games challenges (like chess problems)
- Novel — Not quite a game, but an interactive story, be it linear or branching
- Rhythm — A set of musical games, where precise inputs with a certain rhythm are required
These descriptions are not exact and 100% definitive, as games tend to mix and warp genres, but we try to hit as close as possible.
For example:
- DOOM (Eternal) is a shooter/platform
- FIFA is a strategy/management
- Diablo is a pure action
- Final Fantasy is considered an RPG, despite being linear
- Tetris is logic, but only because there's no better category for it
